In the English, Math, and Science classes, students participate in circle time where they sing songs, read books, recognize the letter and number of the week, and engage in fun-filled activities based on the theme of the week. The activities provide hands-on experiences in the areas of sensory development, language, math, science, geography and art.
In the Religious Studies class, students listen to short stories of the Prophets and the Sahabah and engage in fun activities that reinforce Islamic concepts. In Arabic class, students participate in activities that motivate them to learn the Arabic letters and their sounds, vocabulary words, and numbers. In Quran class, students memorize some Surahs and simple dua’as.
The PreK program includes indoor/outdoor play and naptime.
Reading and writing are critical components of our everyday lives. AlGhazaly School is committed to reaching each and every student and his unique learning style through our Language Arts curriculum.
The Scott Foresman Reading program has been implemented in grades 1-5. It is a comprehensive program that incorporates and meets the Common Core standards through reading and writing instruction. Teachers teach through whole group, small group, or individual instruction. Instruction is varied and differentiated to meet the needs of the learners. The Scott Foresman program coupled with strong teacher instruction will help us to reach all of our students. At AlGhazaly School, we are committed to reaching each student and maximizing his or her potential. The Goal is to create independent readers and writers who can thrive and survive in our fast paced, ever-changing society.
The Journeys program has been implemented in Kindergarten. It is a comprehensive program that incorporates and meets the Common Core standards through reading and writing instruction. Journeys also has a technology piece which provides online materials and student access.
Welcome to Everyday Mathematics. It is a part of AlGhazaly School’s Mathematics curriculum developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project. Everyday mathematics, which is a research-based program, offers children a broad background in mathematics by implementing a problem-solving approach based on everyday situations, frequent practice of basic skills, an instructional approach that revisits concepts regularly, and a curriculum that explores mathematical content beyond basic arithmetic.
Our Kindergarten class has transitioned to the new Envision Mathematics program. The Envision math program combines problem-based learning and visual learning to deepen students’ conceptual understanding. Envision lessons start with Problem-Based Learning (PBL), where students must think critically about a real-world math problem, evaluate options, collaborate, and present solutions. This is followed by Visual Learning to solidify the underlying math concepts.
Comprehensive science program that focuses on student-centered learning. The curriculum develops strong reasoning skills and critical thinking strategies. Students are encouraged to work like scientist and engineers, engage in explorations, evidence-based arguments. Formulate claims, using data and coming up with creative solutions
Make a better world, a world of respect and equality. Social studies embraces democratic values, community, and cultural diversity. Develop a deep understanding of civic issues Rules and Laws Who Are Our Leaders? Good Citizens, Land and Water, Globes and Maps, what is Culture? Everyday life, past and present. Connected communities, and global conversation.
In Islamic Studies our students are taught about the Islamic religion, this builds a foundation a love for Allah (swt), his Messenger (pbuh) and the Quran. Students closely study the Quran in Quran classes and the themes are discussed in Islamic Studies classes. By examining the Quran students learn to apply the lessons being learned in their everyday lives.
Islamic studies also focus on monotheism, the tenet that there is one God. It teaches the attributes of Allah (swt) and the connection between God and Islamic law. Students are taught about Islam through stories. Stories about prophets and other important figures, about the history of Islam and the Muslim culture.
It instills traditional Islamic values in students—the values codified in the Quran. These values include honor, trust, honesty, and justice. Students are also taught proper manners, including how to conduct oneself, and how to act towards others. We focus on helping students build and cultivate their Islamic identity. Students learn about Islamic traditions and beliefs. Helping student understand their religion and heritage.
Muslim prayer
Students are taught about their five daily salat (prayers) and pray in the mosque once or twice a day at school.
Arabic Curriculum
Arabic is a required subject. Since this can be very challenging subject, teachers plan activities that are engaging and allow students to have fun while learning. Students improved literacy skills and a deeper understanding of certain dimensions of Arabic language, such as grammar. Learning Arabic focuses on helping students build and cultivate their Islamic identity. Students learn about Islamic traditions and beliefs. This helps students understand their religion and heritage.
